Provincial funding announced for upgrades to three local ball fields

11 July 2024 à 12:46 pm

Last week, it was announced that three local ball diamonds would be receiving upgrades with funding acquired through the provincial PAFIRSPA program.

The funding covers 66% of the overall project cost, with the remaining 34% being supplied by the local applicants. All three recipients told CHIP 101.9 that the projects still had to go out to tender, but they were aiming to have them completed for next season.

Bryson – $47,634

Recreation Association Vice-President Meghan Griffin said that they were looking to add netting around the outfield of their diamond to ensure that the rest of their park can be used safely during games.

Campbell’s Bay – $72,378

Campbell’s Bay Director General Sarah Bertrand explained that they were replacing around 500 feet of fencing around the field, including the backstop.

L’Isle-aux-Allumettes – $56,681

Chantal Lair, the community development agent for the Municipality of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes explained that they decided to rehabilitate the old ball field in St-Joseph, in order to expand the options for their adult ball league which currently use the diamonds in Chapeau and Waltham.
