Preparatory work begins on site of future Outaouais hospital

Preparatory work is getting underway this month at the site of the future university-affiliated hospital in the Outaouais region.

Santé Québec Outaouais, working with the Société québécoise des infrastructures, says the first phase of work will begin in early September.

The contract has been awarded to Amor Construction following a public tender.

The preparatory phase is expected to continue through the fall of 2027.

It will include the demolition of existing buildings, environmental decontamination, and the construction of a project office.

Crews will also carry out other work needed to prepare the site for the next stages of the hospital project.

Demolition, decontamination and site preparation will take place gradually, according to a planned schedule.

Officials say soil and contaminants will be managed in accordance with applicable environmental standards and requirements, with the goal of maintaining a safe environment throughout the work.

This first phase will prepare the land for construction of the future hospital and marks the beginning of major on-site work.

The future Centre hospitalier affilié universitaire de l’Outaouais, or CHAU, is being developed to meet the current and future health-care needs of the region.

The hospital will bring together specialized and highly specialized services, while also supporting health-care education and research in the Outaouais.
