The Pontiac Terry Fox Run returned once more on Sunday afternoon with new organizers at the helm, following a year-long hiatus.

New organizers Carolann Barton and Jennifer Mielke explained that they decided to take up the torch after the local run’s original organizers, John Petty and Rick Valin, announced they were stepping back in 2022. They said that putting together the run in around a month was a daunting task, but with the support of the community they were able to pull it off.

Valin said that their reasons for keeping the run going for more than 40 years were personal. Petty’s late wife Betty, who helped organize the run at the start passed away from cancer. Petty expressed his appreciation for the pair taking on the run’s organization.

Just prior to the run, the Shawville Lions Club presented Mielke and Barton with a cheque for $1,500.
