Pontiac MP Sophie Chatel discusses year ahead

20 January 2023 à 11:40 am

Pontiac MP Sophie Chatel visited CHIP 101.9’s studio on January 19 to discuss what’s on her agenda for the year ahead.

In addition to representing the riding of Pontiac, Chatel also sits on the House of Commons’ standing committee on finance. She spoke about the discussions that are taking place on that committee on the topic of inflation.

She also talked about her Green and Prosperous Outaouais initiative, which seeks to gather the feedback from residents of the riding on a variety of issues facing the Outaouais region.  Citizens can submit their input to Chatel’s website here.

She also spoke about Bill C-21, an enormous proposed change to Canadian gun laws, which received widespread media attention in December. The bill, which originally focused on banning the sale of handguns, among other things, ignited a storm of criticism after a last-minute amendment broadened the potential restrictions to a wide swathe of long-guns (shotguns and rifles).

Chatel said that given the feedback they received, the public safety committee will be reviewing the amendments in meetings that have been scheduled for February, and said that she would be following the deliberations closely.

The full interview with Chatel (21m44) is available here.
