Phare Ouest obtains the permit for the installation of lighting on the Félix-Gabriel-Marchand Bridge
Despite the uncertainty that hangs over the end of the work on the Félix-Gabriel-Marchand Bridge, Louis Harvey of the Phare Ouest organization is staying the course in order to install the equipment to ensure the illumination of the covered bridge. Louis Harvey confirmed to CHIP 101.9 that he had obtained a permit to begin installing the equipment on the bridge.
“We have the permit from the Quebec Ministry of Transport (MTQ), which allows us to install the equipment between June 1 and November 30. Once the repairs are completed on the bridge, it should take about 10 days to install the equipment, ”says Louis Harvey.
The reopening of the bridge was initially set for next July, but CHIP 101.9 learned this winter that some delays could occur. The MTQ did not want to specify a fixed date for the reopening of this infrastructure which is part of the identity of the Pontiac.
Erected in 1898 in the municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract and measuring approximately 150 meters, the Félix-Gabriel-Marchand bridge is recognized as the longest covered motorable bridge in Quebec. This bridge is unique because it was constructed from a combination of two types of trellis. It was named in honor of Félix Gabriel-Marchand, Premier of Quebec from 1897 to 1900. The renovation project is extremely complex. It consists of reinforcing and straightening the structure, replacing the roof and paneling, rebuilding the deck and replacing certain damaged or deficient parts.
