Pedestrian Month: We Are ALL Pedestrians

Pedestrian Month: We Are ALL Pedestrians

3 October 2025 à 12:36 pm

October marks Pedestrian Month. On this occasion, CAA-Québec is calling for vigilance and solidarity on our roads. Every day, thousands of pedestrians share public spaces with drivers, cyclists, and operators of heavy vehicles. It is our collective responsibility to ensure their safety. Drivers and cyclists are reminded to pay close attention to pedestrian crossing signals, both in urban and residential areas. Simon Bourassa from CAA-Québec provides more details:

More and more municipalities are equipping pedestrian crossings with fast-flashing rectangular lights that can be activated as needed. Drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks—whether or not they are equipped with lights—face fines ranging from $200 to $300 (plus fees), while cyclists can be fined $80 to $100 (plus fees). Additionally, pedestrians should avoid distractions such as cell phones or headphones when crossing an intersection or using a crosswalk. October is also an opportunity to remind pedestrians of the importance of being visible at the end of the day, as nights fall earlier during this time of year.
