Participatory Budgets in the MRC Pontiac

Participatory budgeting is a democratic process that allows community members to collectively decide how a portion of a budget is spent. Today, there are up to 8,000 municipal participatory budget initiatives worldwide each year. The concept also extends to thousands of organizations of all kinds, including regional and national governments, schools, and nonprofit organizations.

The Pontiac Regional County Municipality (MRC Pontiac) has funded and supported four municipalities in launching participatory budgets: L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Campbell’s Bay, Otter Lake, and Waltham. Normand Veillette from the organization Loisir Sport Outaouais provides further details:
