Outaouais has now more than 100 confirmed cases of COVID-19
There are now 117 cases of COVID-19 in the Outaouais (data released on Monday, April 6th). According to information provided by the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais, fewer than five cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the MRC Pontiac.
Of the 117 cases, 92 are in Gatineau. On the MRC de Papineau side, 10 cases were confirmed, and 9 were observed in the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, which shares the 6 remaining cases in the MRCs of Pontiac and Vallée-de- la-Gatineau.
At the provincial level, there are 8,580 confirmed cases, 121 deaths and 533 people hospitalized, including 164 in intensive care. Quebec Premier, François Legault, said despite the increase in confirmed cases and deaths in Quebec, small increases in the number of hospitalizations and people in intensive care in the last few days are encouraging signs. Legault also noted that there were two fewer regular hospitalizations than on Sunday.
“It means we have two fewer people in regular hospital beds,” said Legault. Obviously, we cannot rely on the results of a single day alone, but if we continue to see such small increases in hospitalizations, it will mean that Quebec is getting closer to the top. It will mean that we are approaching the date when Quebeckers can start to return to normal life, “he said.
The Premier also insisted: “There is no question, however, that Quebecers will relax their efforts at this stage”. The government also plans to unveil the most likely scenario for the spread of the virus on Tuesday.
Sufficient equipment
The Prime Minister says he continues to closely monitor the inventory of personal protective equipment. He indicated that orders for N-95 masks have been received recently. Legault admitted that blouses are a challenge today, with 6 days of inventory. The network is trying to use more washable gowns, but work is continuing so that Quebec can manufacture as much equipment as possible.
Acknowledgments of the day
Legault thanked all Quebecers today. “It’s nice to see our people united in this crisis, to see Quebeckers staying at home, to see Quebeckers who support our health personnel, our farmers, our groceries, our police officers, our bank tellers. It’s beautiful to see this mutual aid!”, said Quebec Premier.
