For a few weeks now, Quebec has been sending forestry firefighters and forest fire management specialists to Australia to help in the fight against the forest fires that are currently wreaking havoc across the country.
Among the members of this team, some of the firefighters and specialists from the Société de protection contre le feu (SOPFEU) of the Maniwaki base are Pontiac residents. In an interview with the Information Officer for the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center, Mélanie Morin, gave news on behalf of the team live from Melbourne, Australia.
Among the Quebec specialists sent to Australia, we can note the presence of the contrôleur au centre régional de lutte de la SOPFEU in Maniwaki, Garry Pearson, a resident of Fort-Coulonge. CHIP 101.9 will be in contact Pearson upon his return from Australia.
