New ways to fight child sexual exploitation in the Outaouais

New ways to fight child sexual exploitation in the Outaouais

8 June 2022 à 12:00 am

The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais, in partnership with the Steering Committee of the Table régionale en exploitation sexuelle de l’Outaouais (TRESO), and their partners are pleased to announce that they have received funding for a coordination position for the next 2 years. The Centre d’intervention en abus sexuel pour la famille (CIASF) will act as the agent. TRESO brings together several partners in the region: the various police forces, judicial organizations, community organizations, educational institutions and the CISSS de l’Outaouais.

  • The main lines of action that will be prioritized by TRESO in the coming year are:
  • The detection of cases of sexual exploitation: the objective of the TRESO will be to organize a network of pivot agents concretely favouring the consultation of the various partners, thus making it possible to consolidate the social safety net surrounding our young people;
  • The continuation of the training of actors from the various organizations involved, including 200 partners who have been trained through different backgrounds so far;
  • The development of a concerted trajectory of services in the area of sexual exploitation.

The TRESO will promote the services developed for our young people and their families offered by community organizations in our region (CIASF, CALAS, CAVAC, BRAS) while supporting the development of other services made necessary to meet the challenges of sexual exploitation.

The Outaouais has several particularities that make it a region conducive to the sexual exploitation of minors. In addition to being geographically close to major centers where the purchase of sexual services is widespread in the region, given the high average salary of the population. Faced with this social challenge, it is necessary that all regional actors get involved together to protect children. Preventive interventions will be deployed to prevent our children from being victims of such situations. Adding coordination will help develop a trajectory of specialized services with the potential to bring hope and resilience to young people. We must improve our actions to better intervene at the source of existing networks, which includes clients and pimps, the latter being the very origin of the problem.

We invite the population not to hesitate to report to Youth Protection any situation about which they have doubts. Stronger together in Outaouais!
