The Mansfield-et-Pontefract Fire Department recently purchased a new truck for their fleet. Chief Patrick Bertrand explained that the investment would improve the service that they offer to the region.

“It helps fight the fire much faster, especially when it comes to vehicle fires,” he said (translated). “Besides, the new truck, well, it has a bigger amount of water. When you go see it, you’ll see, it’s almost a juggernaut compared to the other trucks we had before. It is certain that, the trucks, we had one which dates from 2011, which was our most recent. But, when you look at our oldest trucks, those are trucks that are almost 35 years old. So the normal life of a fire truck is on average 25 years. So, those which are 35 years old, they still made their way. That’s why we try to keep up to date in our municipality also to ensure the service and, at the same time, save lives.”

Bertrand noted that they would need to do some training with the new vehicle.
