Moisson Outaouais Reports a Worrying Rise in Food Assistance Requests

Moisson Outaouais is expressing concern over a new surge in demand, as the 2025 Hunger Count reveals that food insecurity continues to grow rather than decline.

The organization and its network of partners now respond to 94,036 food assistance requests each month — a 48% increase in just four years, placing sustained pressure on the region’s support network.

The 2025 Hunger Count highlights a troubling situation in the Outaouais. According to Marie-Pier Chaput, Director of Communications at Moisson Outaouais, the organization is facing unprecedented demand as more families and individuals turn to food banks for essential support.

Food Insecurity Affects Everyone, and the Root Causes Must Be Addressed

Food insecurity is no longer sparing anyone. Unless the root causes of poverty are tackled, hunger will continue to rise. The high cost of housing in the Outaouais largely explains this alarming trend.

The 51 organizations affiliated with the Moisson Outaouais network form the front line in the fight against hunger, and this line is beginning to show signs of strain.
