New by-law concerning laying hens in the Municipality of Pontiac

11 January 2023 à 2:59 pm

Since December 22, the Municipality of Pontiac has adopted a new by-law allowing citizens of the entire municipal territory (Quyon, Onslow, Luskville, Eardley, Breckenridge) to have laying hens, under certain conditions. This new regulation stipulates that laying hens must be for personal use and it is permitted to keep a maximum of five (5) hens on a plot with a single-family residence, with an area of 2,000 square meters, and to obtain a certificate of authorization.

Please note that the euthanasia and slaughter of hens are not authorized on residential land. Several rules affect the layout of the site, its location, its maintenance and hygiene. More details about laying hen care in the Municipality of Pontiac are available here.
