New Brunswick, Alberta and British Columbia come to Quebec to lend a hand

The Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU), in collaboration with the Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs (MFFP), called on colleagues from Canada to deal with the numerous forest fires that are raging in Quebec. Thus, 200 forest firefighters from New Brunswick and British Columbia join the 500 forest firefighters and auxiliary combatants in Quebec currently at work. In addition to these resources, which will be deployed on fires based on operational requirements, there are six tankers and one aeropointing aircraft from Alberta.

Currently, 23 fires are active in Quebec, including 15 in an intensive protection zone. Three of these fires are considered out of control. The arrival of these firefighters will allow SOPFEU to cope with this significant increase in work.

In recent years, SOPFEU and its staff have supported other Canadian provinces and US states on numerous occasions. It is now Quebec’s turn to enlist the services of colleagues from the outside. Quebec is a signatory to the Canadian Agreement on Mutual Assistance in the Event of Forest Fires, which allows it to borrow resources from other provinces and territories in times of overflow
