At the federal candidates debate hosted by CHIP 101.9 on August 25, Pontiac NDP candidate Denise Giroux was asked about Quebec’s proposed changes to their language laws, Bill 96. Giroux, who was born and raised a Franco-Ontarian, said that the rights of minority language speakers must be respected, but pointed out that the histories of minority French- and English-speakers were very different.
