Naomie Lusignan places sixth at World Junior Weightlifting Championships
Mansfield-et-Pontefract weightlifter Naomie Lusignan just returned from Lima Peru where she was competing at the World Junior Weightlifting Championships, placing sixth.
She explained that this competition was made more challenging than usual due to dropping from the 71 kg weight class to 64 kg over the first few months of this year. She explained that she and her coaches had decided to make the cut in order to be more competitive going forward in her career.
She said she was pleased to have maintained her strength at the lower weight class and hoisted 94 kg (207 lbs) in the snatch. Her clean and jerk was 112 kg (247 lbs), which she said was disappointing, as she had lifted more in training.
Lusignan said that she that this is her last year as a junior, and it will be a busy one, as she is aiming to compete at the both the Junior and Senior Canadian Championships, as well as the World Senior Championships in October. She said that she was thankful for everyone that had supported her through the tough days of the weight cut.
