Naomie Lusignan finishes sixth in her first international competition
Mansfield-et-Pontefract athlete Naomie Lusignan was in action at the under 18 World Youth Weightlifting Championships in Leon, Mexico. The Pontiac teen finished sixth in what was her first experience on the international stage. CHIP 101.9 will chat with her when she returns to Canada.
“Today was my first world youth championships and also my first international competition. I will start by thanking everyone for supporting me through this great experience, and especially to our beautiful municipality of Mansfield/Fort-Coulonge. I would also like to thank some people in particular who have really helped me to push my limits and who have supported me to get here including: Justin Spencer, Sylvain Lusignan, Sophie Bonin, Sylvie, Xavier Lusignan, Hani Kanama, Sylvie Béland, Metro mon épicier, CHIP 101.9, MRC Pontiac, Fitness l’Entrepôt de l’Outaouais, Municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract. In the snatch, I made 79 kg✅, 82 kg✅ and 84 kg✅ which allowed me to have the highest snatch of group B and, in the shoulder throw, I made 99 kg ❌, 101 kg✅ and 103 kg❌ which gave me the second highest clean and jerk. These two lifts allowed me to have a total of 185 kg and to gain the first place in Group B. This competition was a very good day for my snatch, but a less good day for my clean and jerks, since I wanted to reach a slightly higher number. I am still very proud of what I have accomplished since it remains my first international competition. I am also very lucky to have done an interview with Radio-Canada and Le Droit yesterday! The 71 kg category will take place at 6 a.m. today (Mexico time) so I can’t wait to find out which place I will finish worldwide! Thanks again to everyone for supporting me very well, without you I wouldn’t be here”, Lusignan wrote on her Facebook account following the competition (translated).
