Much more needed than just an environmental study

According to the Ministère des Fôrets, de la Faune et des Parcs (MFFP) it could take many years of studies, analyses and approvals before the municipality of l’Ile-du-Grand-Calumet could see the creation of a national Park in the Iles Lafontaine. In an interview with one of the chargés de projet de la direction des Parcs Nationaux au Ministère des Forêts, de la Faune et des Parcs, Alain Thibeault, he talked about the criteria necessary for establishing a national park.

As explained by Thibeault, this process could take up to five years minimum in order to get approvals from the Quebec Government and a few more years before the park would be in operation.

A few weeks ago, after the tour of the envisioned site for the National Park idea for the Iles Lafontaine, CHIP 101.9 spoke to the project promoter, Joe Kowalski, who said in an interview that an environmental study would be ”nice to have, but is not a necessity”.
