MRC to promote local agricultural products with digital sign, indoor display
At the most recent MRC Pontiac council of mayors meeting on April 17, council approved a resolution budgeting up to $86,400 for a project to promote agricultural products from throughout the Pontiac. The funding was allocated as part of component four of the the Regions and Rurality Fund (FRR).
Shanna Armstrong, the MRC’s economic development commissioner for agriculture, explained that the project seeks to create a central location to showcase agricultural products in the tourism display in the lobby at the MRC office, as well as installing a digital sign outside on Hwy. 148.
She said that she’d had some preliminary discussions with the ministry of transport regarding the size, location and various rules regarding signage near the provincial highway. She said that she hoped to see the project come together this year, but it would depend on the approvals process for the outdoor sign.
Armstrong explained that $24,800 had been budgeted for the indoor installation, with another $61,600 budgeted for the outdoor digital sign installation. She said she was unable to provide a more detailed breakdown, as “certain elements will need to be contracted out therefore the amount budgeted can’t yet be public.”
