Chichester’s Donald Gagnon is the longest-serving mayor in MRC Pontiac, having spent more than 25 years leading the council of the small community in the north west of the region. Gagnon, along with the rest of his council, was elected by acclamation.

“It feels good, and it’s nice to see that I have the support of the people,” he said. “Right now, I [have] 26 years and if I finish this term it will be 30.”

He said that the priority for this year, like always, would be to keep taxes low and the municipality’s roads in good shape. He also pointed to the village’s waterfront rehabilitation which he said was a project he wanted to see completed this term.

At the regional level, Gagnon said that he would like to see some of the MRC’s forestry projects come to fruition in order to bring jobs and people back to the region.

“Jobs, that’s what we need,” he said.
