MRC Pontiac: the debate on the use of the PPJ trail continues
More than 50 people attended the Regional Council of Mayors meeting last night, June 20th, at the MRC Pontiac in Campbell’s Bay office to learn about the latest developments of the possible sharing of the PPJ trail with quads and other recreational vehicles. A resolution was passed by the mayors to create a research committee to look in to the legitimacy of making part of the trail available for multi-use, between Campbell’s Bay and Waltham. The Warden of the MRC Pontiac, Jane Toller.
The Warden reiterated that a solution must be proposed, but a solution that would be suitable to all parties involved.
Many questions were raised during the meeting by the current occupants of the PPJ and by those who may potentially use it in the future. A Gatineau resident, Paul Shea, asked the MRC Pontiac not to wait too long to decide on this issue, because the current conflict, in his opinion, has implications outside of the region and creates a bad publicity for tourism in the Pontiac
In an interview with CHIP 101.9 this week, MNA Pontiac André Fortin said that the Quebec government will not renew its funding for the maintenance of the PPJ if it is opened to multi-use, and that security remains a priority.
A full report on the most recent discussions on the use of the Cycloparc PPJ in the Pontiac will be available shortly.
