MRC Pontiac seeking student for tourism ambassador role

MRC Pontiac is looking for a student to fill the position of local tourism ambassador. The person hired will see to welcoming visitors, providing tourist information, writing and managing a blog and updating the database of the Bureau d’information touristique (BIT).

“This is a very independent position that requires a motivated and autonomous person with an excellent knowledge of the various assets and attractions of the Pontiac,” the job posting states (translated). Candidates must be bilingual and have a good working knowledge of various social media platforms. An interest in journalism, photography or tourism is an asset, as is a driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Primary functions

  • Be an ambassador for visitors, tourists and residents of the Pontiac;
  • Answer tourist questions via phone, email, social media;
  • Update the list of tourist and cultural attractions and tourist services for the website;
  • Maintain and update the database of the Tourist Information Office;
  • Be a “Discover the Pontiac” blogger: visit attractions, do research, interviews and collect data and photos for a blog for a series of blogs that will be posted on social media every week (8-10 blogs) ;
  • Visit certain attractions and events to provide tourist information;
  • Stock Tourist Information Relays with Pontiac tourist maps, Pontiac business guides and Outaouais tourist guides;
  • Deliver Pontiac tourist maps to a variety of Pontiac businesses (gas stations, tourist sites and restaurants;
  • Ensure the reception of visitors and customers of the MRC.

The successful candidate will work 20-35 hours per week, both at the MRC office and across the territory, for $19.04/hr. The job will require working alternating weekends.
