MRC Pontiac : Gatherings remain prohibited and monitored by the SQ
In a message to residents of the MRC Pontiac, the Warden Jane Toller wanted to recall that, although the road checkpoints were lifted this week, citizens must remain vigilant in their travellings.
The Warden insisted that gatherings are still prohibited and will be monitored by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). She also reiterated the message for boaters and cottage owners.
Here is the content of her message in the letter, published via the MRC website:

Dear Residents of the Pontiac,
As many of you are aware, the controlled access points in the MRC Pontiac (Bristol, Portage-du-Fort, L’Isle-aux-Allumettes) were lifted yesterday, May 11th. Now that these restrictions have been lifted, it is even more important to remain vigilant in your social distancing, and travel for essential reasons only. As the Premier stated today, it is important that when you leave your home or have to visit a public space, you should wear a mask (homemade or otherwise). This is to protect yourself and others.
As the nice weather approaches, we must remember that gatherings are still prohibited and monitored by the SQ. All major events and gatherings (festivals, fairs, etc.) are officially pushed back to August 31st by the Province, and this date is subject to change. The same precautions apply to boating during this fishing season. There must be no more than 2 persons of the same household to a boat, and all other safety precautions must still be followed to minimize the risk of requiring emergency services.
I would once again like to thank the cottagers and part-time residents who have reached out to me to express their concerns about travelling in the area. Many of you have stated that you will be taking every precaution to ensure minimal contact with our locals (i.e. shopping before travelling, leaving your property only when necessary, etc.) and we thank you for keeping everyone’s health and safety in mind.
Tomorrow, the MRC Pontiac Council of Mayors will meet in plenary committee. Since the arrival of Covid-19 two months ago, we have been holding our meetings by video conference with the 18 mayors. Our initiatives continue to move forward. The Regional Council meeting, which will take place next Wednesday, is open to the media and an audio recording will be made public on the MRC website in the days that follow. A decree from the FQM now requires that all public municipal meetings be recorded (audio, video or written) and made available to the public.
Our local SAAQ office is now open three days a week (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) by appointment only. Please call 819-648-5689 ext. 0 to book your appointment. You can continue to look for daily updates on my Facebook page and the MRC Pontiac website. Thank you again for your strong determination!
Keep safe, Together Pontiac!
Jane
