MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais Warns Residents About a New Scam
The Public Safety Department of MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais is warning residents about a new scam occurring in the region. Citizens have been receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be police officers, stating that their bank accounts have been compromised.
The scammers say that a “colleague” will visit their home to collect bank cards and PINs in order to “resolve the issue.”
Unfortunately, several residents have already fallen victim. Since this morning, multiple complaints have been filed in Chelsea, and similar cases were reported in the Pontiac region last week.
Public Safety urges anyone who has been contacted or has information about the suspects to reach out immediately:
-
To report an incident: 819-459-9911
-
In case of emergency: 911
Stay vigilant: never share your banking information over the phone, and do not let anyone into your home claiming they need to collect your cards or PINs.
