Moisson Outaouais officially launches its expansion project

4 June 2026 à 4:03 pm

Moisson Outaouais held a groundbreaking ceremony today to officially launch construction for its expansion project, titled Growing Together.

This project represents a $6‑million investment aimed at addressing the significant rise in food insecurity across the Outaouais region.

The expansion will add 8,200 square feet to the current facilities, increase storage and food‑recovery capacity, and triple the output of the organization’s transformation kitchen.

The organization reports that it currently responds to more than 94,000 requests for food assistance each month, a 48% increase over the past four years. Moisson Outaouais also supports a network of 51 affiliated community organizations throughout the region.

According to Board President Joseph Aghaby, this project represents far more than a construction site — it marks an important step toward better meeting the community’s growing needs and improving food‑distribution logistics.

Meanwhile, the major fundraising campaign aims to raise $3.5 million from the community and the business sector. To date, more than $1.8 million has already been collected, leaving $1.7 million still needed to reach the goal.

The organization emphasizes that, given the constant rise in demand, launching the construction work had become essential to respond to the urgency of the situation.
