Moisson Outaouais launches major expansion project to meet rising demand

27 April 2026 à 11:57 am

Moisson Outaouais has announced the launch of its expansion project titled “Growing Together”, a major initiative aimed at better addressing the significant rise in food security needs across the region.

With more than 94,000 food assistance requests fulfilled each month—a 48% increase over the past four years—the organization says its current facilities are no longer sufficient to keep up with demand.

The $6 million project includes an 8,200-square-foot expansion, featuring a major enlargement of the warehouse, an expanded food processing kitchen, and the creation of multifunctional spaces.

According to Moisson Outaouais, these improvements will help increase storage and distribution capacity, optimize the management of fresh food, and better support the 51 affiliated organizations across the region.

Once completed, the project is expected to allow the recovery of up to 1 million additional kilograms of food per year, triple meal production, and strengthen food programs for children, including La Cantine pour tous.

The project has received a $1 million contribution from the Financial Assistance Program for the Development of Storage Infrastructure for Quebec Food Banks, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

A $3.5 million fundraising campaign has also been launched to ensure the project’s full completion.
