6 January 2021 à 12:00 am

The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais announced that they had received their first doses of the vaccine from Moderna. About 500 doses of this vaccine are now available and will be administered starting today (January 6). The CISSS de l’Outaouais indicates that the Moderna vaccine can be moved, these doses will be administered to residents of CHSLDs in rural and urban areas. According to the CISSS de l’Outaouais, a mobile team composed of a team leader as well as nurses will travel to vaccinate the residents of the CHSLDs on site.

The CISSS de l’Outaouais also recalled the decision of the Quebec Immunization Committee of the INSPQ (National Institute of Public Health of Quebec) which recommends a modification to the vaccination strategy against COVID-19 in Quebec, in a context of shortage and circulation of the virus at a high level. It is recommended that a 1st dose of vaccine be offered to the greatest number of people belonging to the first six priority groups. “When all these groups have received this first dose of the vaccine and if the efficacy studies show a decline in protection after the first dose, vaccination of a second dose will then be undertaken,” explains the CISSS de l’Outaouais.

The CISSS de l’Outaouais also reiterated the importance of continuing to apply health measures while the COVID-19 pandemic is at a critical level. “The best way to protect yourself is to limit contact with people who do not live in your home, to respect physical distancing, to wear the mask properly in public places and to wash your hands frequently. Everyone’s collaboration is essential as the vaccination against COVID-19 begins, ” repeated the CISSS de l’Outaouais
