The Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, accompanied by the Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, Mathieu Lacombe, proceeded yesterday (Wednesday, October 14) to announce a new hospital for the Outaouais, which will be built in Gatineau. This health facility will contain 600 beds and will be affiliated with the university.

The minister of the region, Mathieu Lacombe wished to reiterate his government’s promise.

The option to expand a hospital was rejected and the site will be determined in the future. When asked about staff retention, Minister Lacombe said the impact will be positive. He even referred to the reality of the Pontiac and the competition with Ontario, notably Pembroke, during the press conference. According to him, the new hospital should have positive effects on the other establishments.

“The other regions do not live with the competition from Hawkesbury, the competition from Pembroke, the immense competition from Ottawa – their hospitals, their colleges, their universities,” said Minister Lacombe.

The Minister of Health would like the details of the project, the costs, the location, the delivery date, to be specified within the next 18 months.
