The potential interruption of service in Obstetrics at the Shawville Hospital which was estimated to last 4 weeks seems to have been avoided.
In a press release issued by the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de l’Outaouais (CISSSO), it was said that a team of midwives will be lending a hand to the Pontiac Hospital Obstetrics Department from July 26 to August 25 to provide continual obstetric services for the month of August.

The MNA for Pontiac and Official Opposition Critic for Health, Public Health and Vitality of regions, André Fortin, gave more details:

This procedure is expected to provide stability to the obstetrics department to fill in for the shortage of obstetric nurses in the Pontiac.
André Fortin said that the Shawville hospital will be facing an interruption of service on August 3rd and 4th. This, however, is only exception to the solution proposed by the CISSSO.

With the medical and nursing staff able to deliver, combined with the help of the team of midwifes to provide care for newborns will provide services are “safe” and ” of quality”.
The ten or so expecting mothers concerned were informed by their obstetrician about the situation. In the event that one of them prefers not to be accompanied by a midwife, the medical and nursing team will take care of it. The CISSSO also reminded that midwives must have completed a four-year university education, as well as training in neonatal resuscitation and obstetric emergencies.
