Meeting on the forest industry in Fort-Coulonge: cooperative and possible blockade on the menu

The community Anishinaabek Fort de Coulonge Kichesipirini held a meeting last Saturday at the parish hall in Fort-Coulonge to mobilize the population to boost the forestry industry in the Pontiac. Around 40 citizens attended the meeting. The main organizer of this event, Ronald Godin, said he was satisfied with the meeting and he hopes to see the creation of a cooperative but he plans to block certain roads if the government does not agree to certain requests:

Some stakeholders, such as Martin Boucher of the Pontiac Forest Group, insisted that a plan should be put in place. Boucher proposed the creation of a regional fund to support local projects in the forestry industry:

Warden Jane Toller, who has was also present at the meeting, said she hopes to see the Pontiac takes advantage of its geographical position to stand out:

Another meeting is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks to create the cooperative and implement a concrete strategy.
