Masks will be mandatory in public transport from July 13th
The wearing of a mask or face cover will be mandatory in public transport from July 13th for people aged 12 and over.
The transportation services across the province will be preparing to apply this new measure, which will be implemented in a few days. The Premier of Quebec, François Legault.
Mr. Legros suggests that users of the Transcollines service get their own masks if they have not already done so, so that everyone can be protected in public vehicles.
For the moment, this measure does not apply to shops or other public places, where the use of a face covering or mask is strongly recommended. François Legault has nevertheless warned the population that he will not hesitate to make it mandatory, if the situation requires it. He also took the time during his most recent press conference on Tuesday to appeal to good citizenship, collaboration and a sense of responsibility for Quebecers.
A transitional period of two weeks is planned to implement this measure. Thus, from July 27th, if a person refuses to wear the face cover or the mask, they will be refused access to the public transportation service by the transportation companies. “They will have to ensure compliance with this instruction,” said François Legault. Each transport company will have to develop an implementation strategy, which can be adapted according to its reality and the territory it serves”, he added.
The Québec government also recommends wearing a face cover or mask for children aged 2 to 12. However, children under 2 years of age, people whose particular medical condition prevents the wearing of the mask as well as those who are not able to put on or remove the mask by themselves are not affected by this obligation.
