Mario Tremblay responds to CHIP 101.9’s Questions
During the public meeting held in the municipality of L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet, it was confirmed that a petition requesting the resignation of mayor Serge Newberry was delivered to the municipality. With just under 340 signatures collected according to the organizers, during the meeting, Serge Newberry gave his opinion on the petition saying that certain citizens signed the petition without necessarily agreeing with this resignation request.
As for the resident who tabled the petition, Mario Tremblay, there is no doubt that the petition was clear. He said that the vast majority strongly agreed to the request for the resignation of the mayor.
Mario Tremblay also stated that there are many reasons for asking for the mayor’s resignation. He explains that when meeting with various citizens, they listed the allegations against the mayor by other members of the council (Réjean Meilleur and Alice Meilleur-Pieschke), the instability within the municipal office (which has seen, among other things, the succession of 4 different director generals since his election), the lack of transparency from the mayor, notably in the Iles Lafontaine file, the priorities of the mayor, etc.
Mario Tremblay all the while recognized that the arrival of the new director, Sylvain Bégin which he said should have a positive impact on the management of the municipality.
The director of the municipality of L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet, Sylvain Bégin, mentioned that the petition was presented to the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation (MAMH) and to the Commission municipale du Québec (CMQ).
