The Municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract issued a press release earlier this afternoon advising residents to prepare for the worst as the forecasted levels of the Ottawa River are set to match and exceed the levels seen during the floods of 2017.

“It is important to be prepared for the worst case scenario,” the statement reads. “We invite people at risk of being affected to prepare themselves adequately. We also invite their neighbours, relatives and friends to offer assistance. Please contact the municipal office if you are leaving your home to stay elsewhere due to the flood.”

The statement also notes that it appears that the southern portion of the Coulonge River is rising as well, and the municipality has asked the MSP for its predicted levels over the coming days.

The following are the levels on the Ottawa River as of this afternoon:

Level May 2 (2 p.m.): 108.28 m
Level reached in 2017 : 108.52m
Level reached in 2019 : 109.17m
Level predicted for Thursday May 4: 108.65m

Mansfield Mayor Sandra Armstrong gave an update as of Tuesday afternoon. She said that the Patro is in need of volunteers to help sandbag.

Sandbags are available at the municipal sand pit on chemin du lac de la Truite, as well as in the Davidson and La Passe neighbourhoods.
