Mansfield municipal office to close for move to Maison Bryson

7 December 2023 à 1:20 pm

The Mansfield-et-Pontefract municipal office will be closed temporarily on Friday December 8 and Monday December 11 while they move to a temporary location at the George Bryson Cultural House. Mayor Sandra Armstrong told CHIP 101.9 that municipal services will be available at their new location, at 314 rue Principale, on December 12.

“We, the office will be closed this Friday the 8th and Monday the 11th. We are officially moving on Friday, the mover will be here around 9 a.m. in the morning, so the office must be closed,” she said (translated). “We’re going to do the computer installations and everything. So, for the winter, the old building remains, we still have things here, but the process continues for the new building. So, we’re still waiting for news on the grant and those things, but things are progressing very well.”

The Municipality of Mansfield has received financial support to help possibly build new municipal offices, but also to carry out work at the fire station. This move has been in preparation for several months, since the municipality received a report indicating that their municipal offices could pose a health and safety hazard for their employees due to mold.

“It’s certain, with CSST reports and everything that came out. We have mold in the current office in several places, it’s an old building and redoing renovations on this building would cost much more than building a new building,” Armstrong said (translated). “Then, at the same time, it’s rebuilding the town hall, we hope because there are a lot of steps ahead. What we hope for is to be able to link it up with the fire department. So, they too have important updates to make at the fire department level. There will be an expansion, but also make it as safe as possible for the health of our firefighters. So, the first step is complete. So, it’s really these reasons, even at the current municipal office, it’s all messed up. You know, there were some floods, then mold started in the building. So it’s more, even on the health side, it’s not good for us to be here either.”

Recall that the municipal library, which was located at the George Bryson Cultural House, recently moved a few meters to the Dagenais House. The Mansfield Library is expected to be operational shortly.
