A Mansfield man is facing several charges after crashing a vehicle that subsequently caught fire early Monday morning.

At around 3 a.m. on May 20 officers were called to chemin Trécarré in Mansfield after a vehicle had crashed in the ditch and caught fire.  According to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sgt. Marc Tessier, the vehicle lost control after a dangerous maneuver by the driver.

The driver of the vehicle, a man from Mansfield, left the scene of the accident on foot, but was found and arrested. He was released with a promise to appear at the Campbell’s Bay courthouse, where he could face charges of dangerous driving as well as hit-and-run.

Richard Pleau, a captain with the Mansfield Fire Department, said that when they arrived on scene the vehicle was fully involved and it took them roughly 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Three other people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, but only one passenger was taken to hospital for minor injuries.
