Mansfield-et-Pontefract has activated its emergency plan due to rising water levels
The Municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract has activated its emergency response plan due to the rapid rise in water levels observed on the Ottawa River and the Coulonge River.
According to municipal authorities, this decision was made because of uncertainty surrounding hydrological forecasts, which indicate a sustained upward trend in water levels. The latest data suggests that Lake Coulonge could reach 108.15 meters on Friday, with levels potentially rising to 108.30 meters over the weekend, increasing the risk of exceeding flood thresholds.
The emergency plan has led to the establishment of a municipal coordination unit, increased monitoring of waterways, and the mobilization of personnel in at-risk areas. Material resources, including sandbags and equipment, have also been prepared to support residents.
The municipality notes that several roads may be affected by rising water levels, including Thomas-Lefebvre Road, Esprit Road, Léonard Road, Pearson Road, and Passe Road.
Sandbags are available at the municipal sand pit for residents wishing to protect their properties. The municipality is also encouraging citizens to contribute to prevention efforts by volunteering their help.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and state that further updates will be provided as needed.
