Mansfield-et-Pontefract and Fort-Coulonge launch a unifying project at their municipal library
The municipalities of Mansfield-et-Pontefract and Fort-Coulonge are joining forces to launch a new project aimed at enhancing cultural and community services offered to residents. The initiative, which will take effect on April 1st, will be implemented at the Mansfield-et-Pontefract municipal library.
The result of intermunicipal collaboration, this project seeks to bring together complementary services in one location in order to better meet the needs of citizens. By optimizing their respective resources, the two municipalities aim to provide expanded access to local cultural activities and services.
According to municipal officials, this initiative goes beyond a simple administrative arrangement. It reflects a shared commitment to strengthening ties between communities and placing citizens at the heart of decision-making. Families, seniors, and youth will benefit from a space that is more accessible, dynamic, and better suited to their needs. Mansfield mayor Sandra Armstrong indicates that this project will open the door to further collaborations between the municipalities of Fort-Coulonge and Mansfield:
“This project opens the door to further collaborations between the two municipalities. There are other projects that are promising for our region.”
The project also aligns with concerns expressed by residents, particularly during the last municipal election campaign, where access to local services was identified as a key issue.
Municipal leaders highlighted the important contribution of the Mansfield-et-Pontefract library team, which has embraced the initiative with enthusiasm. Their involvement is considered essential to the project’s success and visibility. The mayor of Fort-Coulonge talks about the process that led to this agreement:
“It’s been a few years since the closing of the Fort-Coulonge library and many people have spoken up on their disapproval. The subject came back during the mayor’s election campaign and the community expressed their desire to bring back a local library due to the lack of activities since its closing, like museum trips or visits to the Chutes Coulonge. The Fort-Coulonge council decided to approach the Mansfield mayor with the proposal to join forces in this project. Nothing but positivity in this partnership.”
Presented as a model of regional collaboration, this pilot project could pave the way for similar initiatives in the future. The municipalities are confident in its success and hope it will help strengthen the region’s social and cultural fabric.
With this initiative, Mansfield-et-Pontefract and Fort-Coulonge are relying on cooperation to build a stronger, more inclusive, and forward-looking community.
