Shawville’s Lotus Medical Clinic up for sale, owner looking to step back
The Lotus Medical Clinic in Shawville is up for sale, and owner Joanne Romain is looking to step back from managing the facility, which boasts the offices more than a dozen family doctors and other medical professionals.
With more than 30 years in the health care field as a medical secretary and coordinator with the local family medicine group, Romain is deeply familiar with the local needs and just over a decade ago, saw a gap that needed to be filled. She said that when she founded the clinic in 2014, she was looking to create a space where the region’s family doctors would be under one roof in order to foster cooperation and collegiality.
Over the last decade the clinic has added other medical specialists, from mental health professionals to physiotherapy. Romain said that while she’s enjoyed the journey, it has been a lot of work and she’d like to take some time for herself. She said that she would like to see someone take over who is looking to grow the business, and augment the services offered to the community.
Dr. Keith MacLellan, a physician at the clinic who’s been practicing in the Pontiac for 46 years, said that the clinic has been a big benefit to the community, especially for recruitment, as many newer physicians prefer “turnkey” operations like the Lotus as opposed to managing their own offices.
