Loisir sport Outaouais held two training sessions on February 19th in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau MRC and on February 25th in the Pontiac MRC. More than 35 elected officials attended the course. Participants had the opportunity to meet and interact with one another to build strong connections leading to the creation of a community of practice. Normand Veillette of Loisir sport Outaouais provides all the details:
“It was the initiative of Loisir sport Outaouais and its network to create a training course dedicated to the elected officials. Many new officials were elected last November and many of them are in their first mandate, which is why the training was created. These in-person courses are given in the MRCs. Two of them were given, notably on February 19th in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, and one on February 25th in the Pontiac MRC. These trainings discuss the roles and responsibilities of the elected officials, as well as the collaboration between different municipalities and the needs of the public. These trainings increase exchanges between the elected officials, therefore creating connections for future discourse.”
Loisir sport Outaouais and five other regional development organizations are organizing a tour of rural MRCs. The goal is to meet with local development stakeholders (municipalities
and MRCs) to better understand the issues and challenges related to regional development. The tour will cover the sectors of public recreation, the environment, culture, the social economy, housing, and sustainable mobility. The first hour will be dedicated to regional development organizations presenting their services to raise awareness. Again, Normand Veillette:
“The tour is intended for elected officials and administration personnel of the MRCs and municipalities. Loisir sport Outaouais organized this tour in order to go toward the MRCs and municipalities to understand their needs, so as to provide them with their service offering.”
Loisir sport Outaouais will hold its next Recreation Staff Meeting on Wednesday, March 25th, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the room near the library at the Cantley Community Center.
Those wishing to attend must send an email to confirm their attendance. They must also submit 1 to 2 challenges in order to participate in the morning co-development workshop. If you have lunch at the on-site café, you may indicate your menu choice, which will be at your own expense. You will find the agenda below. Recreation workers, municipal officials,
and individuals working with recreational organizations (youth centers, recreation committees, neighborhood associations) are welcome to attend.
