Local officials vigilant as flooding similar to 2017 predicted

28 April 2025 à 3:50 pm

Rainfall and melting snow in the Pontiac region in recent days have prompted municipalities to take preventive measures against flooding, including the Municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract. In a notice issued on Saturday (April 26), officials state that expected water levels later this week will be similar to the 2017 floods.

Speaking Monday morning (April 28), Mayor Sandra Armstrong said that they were monitoring the situation closely, and have closed rue Léonard to local traffic only.

Le Patro in Mansfield issued a call for assistance on Monday afternoon seeking the public’s help to fill sandbags for their property. The park in Fort-Coulonge, located on rue Baume, has been closed due to rising water levels.

The statement goes on to urge property owners along the Ottawa River and the Coulonge River (between Pont Blanc and the mouth of the Ottawa River) to prepare. The municipality is making sand and bags available for filling at the municipal sandpit located at 32 chemin du Lac de la Truite. The municipality adds that it may even be possible to deliver sand directly to certain properties in critical situations.

For any further questions or more information, Mansfield-et-Pontefract residents are encouraged to contact Armstrong at 819-744-1660 or DG Éric Rochon at 613-717-1791.
