Local newspapers pick up QCNA awards

The Quebec Community Newspaper Association (QCNA), which represents English-language community papers in Quebec, recently released the winners of its Better Newspapers Competition, and two local papers picked up some Ws.

In Pontiac, the Shawville weekly The Equity picked up three prizes, for Best Editorial Page (Dave Moore, Chris Judd, Shelley Heaphy, Charles Dickson), the Jim Bell Award for Best Editorial, local affairs (Charles Dickson) and Best Agricultural Story (Sophie Kuijper Dickson).

The Pontiac Journal, a bi-weekly, bilingual paper based in Mansfield-et-Pontefract, won Best French-language Editorial/Column (Fred Ryan). CHIP 101.9 Director François Carrier, who is a guest editorialist with the Journal, took second place in this category.
