L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet Group to Launch Third Phase of Heritage Project

The L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet Group will soon launch Phase III of its heritage project Honor Our Roots. The goal is to finalize the list of 900 adults buried at Ste-Anne Cemetery and to begin installing commemorative panels to preserve the memory of the community’s ancestors.

The organizing committee of the L’Île-du-Grand-Calumet Group is inviting the public to a press conference.

Since 2018, Honor Our Roots has sought to pay tribute to the ancestors buried at Ste-Anne Cemetery, founded in 1846, where gravestones are rare or missing altogether. Thanks to parish records from Ste-Anne Parish and the research of numerous volunteers, a list of 1,500 people buried at this historic site has been reconstructed.

Organizers will present the key elements of Phase III and will be available to answer questions from those in attendance. It is an event for everyone who values their history and heritage.
