“It’s the human distress that marks this issue” – Marie-Claude Nichols

20 August 2019 à 12:00 am

The Public meeting was held yesterday, August 19th 2019, regarding the persisting issues related to the 2019 floods.

This meeting, which was held at the St-Joseph center in L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, brought together around 150 people who came to ask questions to the various politicians present. In addition to the Mayor of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes Winston Sunstrum, was the Warden of MRC Pontiac Jane Toller and many other municipal representatives of the Pontiac. There was also the notable presence of the incumbent MP for Pontiac, William Amos, as well as MNA André Fortin and the Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil and official opposition Critic for Public Security at the National Assembly in Quebec, Marie-Claude Nichols, who, during the day, met with many stakeholders from the region.

In an interview, Nichols talked about what she had gather for the meeting:

The Special Intervention Zone (ZIS) has once again made its mark as yesterday was the final day to submit applications for the removal of a residency for the map. This is a cause of concern for many residents who are still part of the ZIS Map, but for Sandra Armstrong, a once flooded resident of Mansfield the opposite is also true:

The MNA for Pontiac responded to Armstrong assuring her that they will be working on her particular case.

More details on the public meeting held in the municipality of L’Isle-aux-allumettes will be available soon.
