“It’s embarrassing for Mr. Fleury and for the Green Party” – William Amos

During the interview granted to CHIP 101.9 by the federal deputy for Pontiac William Amos, the latter agreed to comment on the question of Roger Fleury’s claims and the reactions that arose out of the case surrounding his statements. William Amos returned to the words of the Algonquin Anishinabeg Nation Tribal Council, denouncing Roger Fleury. William Amos supported the Tribal Council by insisting that this Council is a legitimate and democratic organization, which, according to William Amos, is not the case with Roger Fleury.

William Amos also mentioned that recently, the Government of Canada tabled a bill aimed at implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in order to move forward on what he called a “common path. of reconciliation ”.

“Advancing reconciliation means changing colonial laws, policies and practices and addressing their effects on the lives of Indigenous peoples. We know that in order to rebuild trust, we have to walk the talk. That is why we introduced Bill C-15, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act. I supported the inclusion of UNDRIP in Canadian law even before I was elected, I supported former NDP MP Romeo Saganash’s draft law in 2018, so I support the project of Bill C-15 from our Liberal government so that it is the same ”explains William Amos.
