Increased security for the construction holidays

Increased security for the construction holidays

16 July 2026 à 10:54 am

As the construction holiday approaches, from July 17th to August 2nd, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) will be increasing its patrols on roads, waterways, and trails. This mobilization comes as last year saw the worst road safety record in ten years for the SQ during this period, with 38 deaths in 30 collisions.

Since nearly a third of Quebecers take time off during these weeks, traffic and visitor numbers increase significantly. The SQ is therefore reminding everyone of the importance of caution, respecting the rules, and adopting responsible behavior to prevent tragedies. It emphasizes the mandatory use of helmets for off-road vehicles and recommends wearing life jackets during water activities.

The public can follow police operations on the SQ’s Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok accounts. In addition, a series of video clips featuring testimonials from police officers affected by the consequences of fatal collisions is being broadcast every week in July on the platforms of the SAAQ and its partners.
