Hydro Quebec holds public consultation on power line replacement near Quyon

28 March 2025 à 10:11 am

On March 26, representatives of Hydro-Quebec held a public consultation at the Quyon Community Centre regarding their plans to replace a 10 km section of high-voltage (120 kV) power lines connecting the Quyon and Wyman substations. A detailed PDF map of the impacted area is available here.

HQ community relations councillor Caroline Milliard explained that this was one of the first steps in their process of replacing the infrastructure. The new towers will have double the capacity (six lines as opposed to three), replacing units that date back to 1929. She explained that these extra lines will provide redundancy in the case of an outage.

Milliard explained that while they would be using the same general right-of-way, they would need to expand it from around 30 m to 54 m, as the new towers are taller. There will also be two areas where the towers will need to be reconfigured, one where an existing tower is too close to a creek and another where the line connects with the Quyon substation.

They aim to start construction around 2027 according to Milliard, once they complete a variety of studies and agreements with stakeholders, with an estimated completion date of 2029. She estimated that around 70 landowners would be impacted by the project, and they were already engaging with many of them.
