How to vote in the federal election
With the federal election underway, there’s several ways local residents can exercise their right to vote for the next representative of Pontiac-Kitigan Zibi. Voting is available to Canadian citizens who are at least 18 years-old by election day, April 28.
If you are already registered to vote, you should receive an information card in the mail with everything you need to know, including your polling station location and times to vote. To register or update your information, click here.
To find your closest polling station online, simply type in your address on the Elections Canada website. While election day is Monday, April 28, advance polling is available from April 18-21. Alternatively you can vote at any Elections Canada office until April 22 at 6 p.m.
You must be able to prove your identity and address, either by showing government issued photo ID with your current name and address, or several pieces of ID, with at least one showing your current address. There is also the option to vote without identification if you declare your address in writing and have someone assigned to your polling station vouch for you. See here for more information on accepted identification.
Applications for voting by mail need to be submitted either online or to an Elections Canada office by April 22 at 6 p.m. More information on voting by mail can be found here.
