Pontiac MP Sophie Chatel was in l’Isle-aux-Allumettes Saturday (June 18) to announce $151,000 in financial aid on behalf of Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) to the Chapeau Agricultural Society for its project to build a public market and develop a community greenhouse.

“Thanks to the financial support of CED through the Government of Canada’s Canadian Community Revitalization Fund, the Chapeau Agricultural Society and our entire community will benefit from the new facilities at the Chapeau Market,” said Ag Society President Gene O’Brien (translated). “It will provide a healthy environment and a tourist destination of choice, in addition to increasing the economic development of our region.”

This financial support will be used to carry out construction work on a building to relocate the public market, which is currently under a tent, and to set up a community greenhouse. This flagship project to facilitate access to quality agri-food products and improve the services offered to farmers is at the heart of the revitalization plan for the center of Isle-aux-Allumettes (the Chapeau sector).

“Our government takes the development of the regions to heart, especially when they set up promising initiatives for their community,” Chatel said (translated). “The new interior space to install the public market will accommodate customers despite bad weather and improve the offer of services to partners and farmers. This will promote living together and the revitalization of the Pontiac community. This is excellent news for the center of Isle-aux-Allumettes!”
