Audio streaming platforms recorded 5.1 trillion streams worldwide in 2025, marking a 9.6% increase according to the annual report by U.S. data firm Luminate.

The data highlights a shifting landscape for the music industry:

  • International Growth: Streams outside the United States rose by 11.6%, reaching 3.7 trillion.

  • U.S. Market Trends: While the U.S. remains a major player with 1.4 trillion streams, its growth has slowed to 4.6%.

  • The Top Players: India, Mexico, and Brazil continue to dominate alongside the U.S. as the world’s largest streaming markets.

The “Long Tail” of Content

The report reveals a significant concentration of listener attention. Out of the 253 million tracks available on streaming services, more than 88% failed to reach 1,000 plays in 2025. This suggests that while the volume of available music is massive, the vast majority of tracks remain unheard by a wide audience.

Market Rankings and Revenue

France currently ranks 10th globally with 148.2 billion streams. In terms of revenue models, paid subscriptions remain concentrated in established markets like the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, and Germany. However, India and Latin America are currently seeing the fastest overall growth in the sector.
