Gilbert Whiteduck discusses campaign, NDP policies

This article is a part of a series of interviews CHIP 101.9 will be conducting with the candidates for the ongoing federal election. Each was offered roughly 15 minutes to answer questions about their campaign, as well as their party’s policies on a range of subjects. Gilbert Whiteduck is representing the New Democratic Party in the riding of Pontiac-Kitigan Zibi. The former Chief of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg Band Council, he also has a wealth of experience in the education and social services sector, having worked as a councillor, teacher and principal.

Asked about addressing housing, he said that it was important to be open and transparent when making agreements with different levels of government.


He also spoke at length about what he sees as the next steps for reconciliation with Indigenous people in Canada.
